Mysteries of Mushrooms at Botanical Gardens

The "Mysteries of Mushrooms for Kids" Workshop will be held at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens on Saturday, January 3, 2009 10:00 am to Noon, for kids, ages 10-13, focusing on the description, ecological relationships, and biology of fungi. Limited to 20 kids, ages ten to thirteen. They will explore the world of the mushroom: is it a plant (but without leaves, how does it make its food?) or an animal, but without legs, how does it move? What does a mushroom eat, and what eats it? We'll find out where it lives and why, and what its various parts are and what they do. The workshop will be led by Mario Abreu, MCBG staff naturalist, and Master Gardener Linda Foote. The workshop costs $5, which includes admission, supplies, and refreshments; a parent will also receive free admission. Class limited to 20. Call 964-4352 x 16 or visit www.gardenbythesea.org to sign up. 18220 North Highway One, Fort Bragg.
